Hey, I’m Sara
FOUNDER, DESIGNER & RESIDENT DETAILS PERSON AT TYPE & THREAD.
I’ve loved design for as long as I can remember, but typography has always been the bit that really gets me. I can lose a frankly unreasonable amount of time comparing letterforms, adjusting spacing and finding the perfect typeface that makes everything suddenly click.
That love of type is where the Type comes from. The Thread bit is all about connection — joining the dots between ideas, information and people, and finding the thing that holds everything together.
A small studio, deliberately*
Type & Thread is a small, independent design studio. I lead every project myself, so you’ll work directly with me from the first conversation to the final artwork.
I’ll get to know you and your business, ask questions, develop the ideas and obsess over all the little details along the way. If a project needs something outside my own skill set, I can bring in trusted creative collaborators.
It keeps things refreshingly simple: no layers of account management, no passing your project from person to person, and no getting lost in the process.
Design with substance* behind it
I have a design degree and over 15 years’ experience across brand, editorial, print and digital — which means I’ve been doing this long enough to know that the lovely creative bit is only half the job. The other half is making sure it actually works.
That might mean untangling a complicated report, keeping 80 pages of a publication beautifully consistent, or making sure the artwork you send to print comes back looking exactly as it should.
I care about the big idea — and the 3mm bleed.
Inspired by what’s beyond* the screen
As much as I love what I do, I’m a firm believer that some of the best ideas happen when you’re nowhere near a desk.
I’m a mum of two, happiest outside somewhere green, and forever noticing colours, textures, wonky shapes and tiny details in the world around me. Nature is probably my biggest source of inspiration — not in an ‘everything-needs-a-leaf-on-it’ kind of way, but in the way colour, contrast and imperfection somehow just work.
Outside the studio, you’ll usually find me wandering a country lane with my family, planning our next city break, hunting down a cute coffee shop or mentally filing away a particularly excellent shade of green.
What matters here*
Good ideas. Thoughtful details. Clear communication. And work that actually feels like you.
I don’t believe in design for design’s sake, or following a trend just because everyone else is. I’d rather understand what you need, work closely with you and make something that feels right — for your business, your audience and the real world it has to live in.
